W.N. Fletcher started a mission Sunday school in Essexville in a rented room on Woodside Avenue which was occupied until 1901. The Sunday school moved into a new small brick edifice on the corner of Dunbar and Langstaff and joined Patterson Memorial Baptist Church in supporting a minister, who divided his time between them. As the church and Sunday school grew it became necessary to build an addition. The Annex was completed in 1949.
With the increase in attendance and the deterioration of the old structure, the growing congregation stepped out in faith and built a modern building at the same location. The name was changed in the 1950s from First Baptist Church of Essexville to Essexville Baptist Community Church. Through out the years, Essexville Baptist Community Church became well known for it's many ministries including youth ministries. Many youth in the Essexville community have come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior while attending youth activities.
The members of Essexville Baptist Community Church recognized an opportunity to reach even more people and share the word and love of Jesus Christ and took a leap of Faith to change the name to Essexville Community Church. Centered in our community roots, the church has taken an open and inclusive approach which has created a welcoming and laid back atmosphere for everyone. We blend tradition with contemporary concepts, offering fellowship in person, on Zoom and even smaller Bible Study circles. You can join us on Zoom every Sunday or feel free to come worship with our home church.
